1. Purpose: The first thing to do is to clearly envision the desired results. Before you create a spell, you need to know exactly what you want and where you are going. Determine whether your goal has to do with love, employment, health, prosperity, or some other need. It is important to be specific. For example, you cannot simply say “I hate my job” and expect your spell to get you the promotion you really want.
2. Materials / Tools: Any materials or tools that you choose should be selected with serious thought as they are symbolic. You do not need a specific number of tools to ensure your spell works quickly or effectively. You can decide on no tools at all, or ten if you so wish – the option is yours since it is your spell. Tools can consist of anything from herbs, charms and candles, to stones, ribbons and perfumes. An item that is significant to you is ideal because magic and symbolism go hand in hand.
3. Timing: As the saying goes – timing is everything. Some individuals rely on specific phases of the moon in order to empower their spell. If your spell is aimed at something positive, it is best performed during a waxing moon (from new moon to full moon). On the other hand, if your spell is aimed at something negative, it is best performed under a waning moon (from full to dark). When the moon is full, it is at its highest energy, and at its peak in terms of power. Therefore, the most powerful time to create a spell is during the new moon.
